Today Go Media teamed up with New Zealand company Mediawave Productions to film an interview with Tommy Sopwith about America's Cup in his English country house. We filmed on two P2 cameras with one on a track and it was lit very dramatically which was an interesting set up to work with. It was very interesting to hear his views and about his father Thomas Sopwith and his experiences in the war. Once again it was great to team up with Go Media.

Today I filmed for Yatching TV at the opening of the Tullet Prebon London Boat Show. Again, like every year, it was an exciting launch. I joined Steve from Go Media and Katherine from Marine Advertising Agency to film around the show. We had some very interesting interviews and I had the pleasure of filming with the C300 again. See below Yachting Tv's channel with the interviews. After the Boat Show at Go Media we thought about how we could improve the Black Magic set up we already have. As the TVS does not allow you to play in graphics you have to find another source to play in that can. We saw it was possible to do this with a laptop however it has to be the latest model as the display settings must match those of the TVS to play out. After a lot of research and thought we came across the Hyperdeck Shuttle and thought we would give it a go. The Shuttle takes SSD cards and can be used as a source to the TVS and to record the footage you are filming live. Our idea is to use it as a VT to either play in something we recorded earlier in the day or to create our own VTs, animated name straps and titles. However when you create the file it must have exactly the same codec as the Shuttle records in. The codec is AVID DNxHD for the compressed setting. we managed to recreate this and play in our own VTs as a source. This paired with the live streaming makes a very exciting set up for the future.
I’ve spent the last few weeks preparing and working at the PSP Southampton Boat Show with Go Media. The whole experience has been very exciting as we have been able to do things in a very different new way this year and have even bigger plans for the London Boat Show in January. Usually at the Boat Show we film items for the BMF for the website and packages for clients for the rest of the week. The aim is to sell tickets to the Boat Show so we go around the stalls making interesting pieces for people to come and see. However a great change this year, making a studio set up possible, is the Black Magic Television Studio. It completely changed the dynamic making the production run smoother and quicker. With our very own Boat Show TV studio area we could set up interviews and stream directly on to the computer and add in a few cut aways later meaning the edit time was significantly less allowing us to turn around double the amount of items. Next year we plan to live stream to the Internet and be live around the show. So not only will we have the studio set up but also a live feed from around the show. Black Magic’s TVS technology made this possible and it will be exciting to use it in the future! I really enjoyed the show especially ladies day where I filmed an interview with Olympian Lizzie Neave and Sunseekers opening with Eddie Jordan and Jensen Button. I also loved operating the C300, the images it produces are beautiful… tempted to get myself a C100 now!
Today I drove up to the British Marine Federation head office in Egham to assist Go Media filming a meeting with Managing Director Murray. The meeting included the boat show exhibitors to debate the upcoming Tullett Prebon London Boat Show. This was to highlight how the show is improving for both the exhibitors and the visitors and for the exhibitors to debate and have their queries answered and resolved. I assisted Stephen Hird with lighting and sound and had an interesting trip and better understanding of the work involved in the improvement of the Boat Shows.
I am travelling to London Excel with Go Media’s Steve Adams to interview MD Murray from the BMF. This is to put together a video in anticipation of the upcoming Tullet Predon London Boat Show 2013. This year they have been working very hard to ensure that visitors and exhibitors get the most out of the boat show. However this was not the reason I found myself most excited to be assisting today. This is the first time I get to have a look at the new camera, the Canon C300. A beautiful camera, which after a little play appeared easy enough to operate, and a descent size. While looking over Steve’s footage from sailing I was amazed by the HD quality. Not only the new camera but a few more gadgets such as the slider and steady cam jacket, I cannot wait to have a go. Though the weather was terrible for the journey a successful day was had and I look forward to the next interview with Murray in the near future.
